Share
We hope everyone is have a great summer thus far!
As we gear up for another exciting college esports season, we’re back with some major updates of everything coming to the PlayVS College League (PCL) this fall. From new titles joining our lineup to important changes to UREC, match day schedules, and full seasonal key dates—here is the latest and greatest for the upcoming school year.
Titles Update: New Additions & Sunsetted Games

We are hyped to expand our game offerings this fall through our partnership with EA! Joining the PCL competitive roster are three premier EA Sports titles: Madden NFL 27, EA FC27 & College Football 27
Additionally, a reminder that Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe is officially joining the PCL circuit!
For all four of these titles, regular-season competitors will be matched each week against regional opponents with similar records (“swiss” format). Once the regular season wraps up, top performers will advance directly into divisional playoffs. All teams will have the opportunity to compete in a meaningful postseason.
Departing Titles
To streamline our competitive offerings and align with updated league initiatives, Apex Legends and Hearthstone will no longer be supported within PCL. We want to extend a huge thank you to all the players, coaches, and teams who participated in these titles over past seasons.

Changes to UREC

We’re officially bringing UREC directly under the PCL banner as our third tier of play, catering to casual and recreational gamers on campus.
Here’s what you need to know about the new UREC integration:
- How it works: Participating teams simply join a match-time "queue" and are paired with another online team ready to play.
- Flexibility: Zero week-to-week commitmhhent—play when you want, as often as you want.
-
Eligibility: Part-time students are permitted, and access to UREC is fully included with a PCL membership.
Important Structural Updates:
- UREC will no longer be offered as a standalone service.
- Under the PCL umbrella, UREC will no longer support cross-school play (all teammates must belong to the same institution).
Divisions of Play Overview
With UREC integrated, PCL now features three distinct tiers:
- Premier: Our premier, high-stakes national division. Features round-robin groups and is limited to one team per school.
- Ranked: Rank-based divisions offering balanced, high-level competition regardless of skill level. Utilizes Swiss format groups with multiple teams per school permitted.
-
UREC: Queue-based, casual matchmaking. Play when you want, as often as you want.
Fall Weekly Match Days and Times
Match days for the Fall 2026 season are set (matches run weekly Monday through Saturday):
- Monday: League of Legends, Marvel Rivals
- Tuesday: College Football, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League
- Wednesday: EA FC, Madden NFL, Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe, Overwatch 2
- Thursday: Call of Duty, VALORANT
- Friday: Counter-Strike 2, Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate
-
Saturday: Fortnite
Schools will be placed into their regional division based on their time zone. EAST groups are generally made up of schools in the Eastern and Central time zones and have a default match time of 7:00pm ET. WEST groups are generally made up of schools in the Mountain and Pacific time zones and have a default match time of 7:00pm PT. A hybrid start time of 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT may be used when necessary, if multiple schools have to be placed into an out-of-region group.
For UREC, schools located in the Central and Mountain time zones may choose either region.
We can't wait to kick off another unforgettable season of collegiate competition this Fall! Mark your calendars for August 4 when registration opens, and don’t hesitate to send us an email (support@playvs.com) if you
Until next time,
