Happy Tuesday, everyone!
As we move closer to the 2026-’27 school year, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes to ensure PlayVS College League (PCL) continues to be the best home for collegiate esports. Today, we are thrilled to pull back the curtain on a massive set of updates designed to provide more value for programs, more opportunities for our students, and a sustainable future for our community.
From new ways to play to a game-changing recruitment platform, here is a look at what’s coming to PCL.
Membership Pricing
To continue delivering the high-quality experience you expect from PCL, for the 2026-’27 academic year, an annual membership will be $1,500, while a single-season membership will be $900. By choosing the annual term, programs can lock in a 20% discount. Memberships are all-inclusive, meaning there is no limit to the number of teams and students a college may field, or the number of titles they can participate in.

Introducing PlayVS Recruit
One of our most exciting additions is the launch of PlayVS Recruit. This platform creates a direct bridge between the PlayVS K-12 and collegiate ecosystems. By connecting high school competitors with collegiate programs and admissions offices, Recruit helps colleges identify esports talent and students interested in pursuing higher education, including gaming-adjacent STEM fields like computer science, digital media, and engineering.
Beginning today, colleges that secure a 2026-’27 PCL Membership will receive immediate access to the PlayVs Recruit Beta as a member benefit, including up to 10 initial qualified connections. Right now is a critical window to connect with high school seniors who are finalizing their college decisions for the Fall. Additionally, membership invoices will be dated July 1, 2026, so members will have full access to the platform right now with no payments due until later this year.
- Direct K-12 Pipeline: Recruit connects to tens of thousands of verified high school students across the PlayVS scholastic network.
- Tailored Recruitment: You can customize your campaigns to find students who fit your specific needs. Whether you are looking for players to fill a roster, aspiring shout-casters and managers, or students who fit a specific academic track.
- 10 Connections: To jumpstart your growth, we will furnish your first 10 campaign-qualified leads right away.
You can learn more about PlayVS Recruit HERE.
Canadian colleges' access to Recruit beta will be delayed initially. Onboarding for those schools will begin in the coming weeks. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Three Tiers of Competition
We know that every program has different goals, which is why we’re evolving our league structure into three distinct tiers. Premier remains our highest level of competition for those chasing championship glory. Our Ranked tier will continue to offer skill-based divisions, ensuring every team has a meaningful and competitive season regardless of their experience level.
New for 2026-’27 is the inclusion of UREC, our recreational matchmaking system designed for more casual play. This queue-based system allows teams to jump in and get matched instantly with opponents of similar skill. It’s the perfect way to engage your broader campus community without the pressure of a set league schedule.
Beginning with the 2026 fall season, UREC matches will be adjusted to align with standard PCL match days. It is worth noting, participation in UREC will remain open to non-members, and it will continue to serve a more casual audience, allowing for cross-school teams and participation by part-time students. Click HERE to learn more about UREC.
Match Days
You can find our weekly schedule below. At this time we are not anticipating any changes to match days, beyond the addition of Mario Kart™ and the re-alignment of UREC.
- Monday: League of Legends, Marvel Rivals
- Tuesday: Rainbow Six: Siege, Rocket League
- Wednesday: Dota 2, Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe, Overwatch 2
- Thursday: Apex Legends*, Call of Duty, VALORANT
- Friday: Counter-Strike 2, Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate
- Saturday: Fortnite*, Hearthstone*
* UREC is not available for Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Hearthstone.
The Future of Scholarship Awards
In most cases, we are moving away from results-based scholarship awards. Under the current system, the majority of awards are earned by just a small handful of members. We are reallocating that funding and putting it toward increased travel stipends for our LAN championship events to help maximize membership value for more programs. This brings us a step closer to our long-term goal of fully funding all travel associated with championship participation.
For titles that do not currently culminate in a LAN event, don’t worry, those games will continue to be supported with scholarship awards.
Additional Awards for All Divisions
In addition to increasing travel stipends for our championship LANs, we are expanding the number of Premier and Ranked awards we distribute seasonally to include both the champion and the runner-up from all divisions of play.
We can’t wait to see those trophy cases!
Two In-Person Championship LANs
Live events will continue to play a prominent role in our calendar. Once again, we will be hosting two in-person championships this year, one during the fall season and one during the spring, to crown our winners.
We are incredibly excited to share that, this year, the PCL 2026 Fall Championship will be held at Syracuse University on December 5 and 6.
“Bringing the PCL Fall Championship to Syracuse University was a natural choice for us, given their incredible commitment to the future of collegiate esports and gaming in general,” says Curtis Winger, Senior Manager of Live Operations at PlayVS. “With the recent debut of their latest state-of-the-art facility, their third on campus, Syracuse is continuing to raise the bar, and we couldn’t be happier to bring our event to the Orange community.”
“We're thrilled to have the opportunity to work with PlayVS to bring the PCL Fall Championship to Syracuse University this coming fall,” added Joey Gawrysiak, PhD, Executive Director of Esports at Syracuse University. “We are looking forward to building on the incredible momentum they have been able to build over the past year to welcome some of the top players and schools to our campus for this high level competition. Not only are we excited to bring the top collegiate to town, but we are also excited to offer our students a chance to plan, manage, and execute an event of this size and scope on the national stage in terms of operations and broadcast production. This is another example of how we continue to find ways to go beyond gaming.”
The Fall Championship will feature live finals for Overwatch 2, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros.™ Ultimate, and VALORANT. Travel stipends will be available to all participating teams.
Qualify for 2027 Zippy’s Hawaii Event
The Hawaii Esports Invitational presented by Zippy’s is returning for 2027. Moving forward this bucket-list event will be exclusive to PCL members.
We’ll be sharing more details on qualification pathways later this year.
Paid Student Positions
At PCL, we believe in developing the next generation of esports professionals. We are proud to continue offering paid student positions in league operations, giving students real-world workplace experience while they finish their degrees.
We will have additional positions opening up ahead of the fall season. If you’re looking to get your foot in the door of the esports industry, make sure to follow @playvs_college for the latest updates.
We couldn’t be more excited for what the next year holds. Thank you for being a part of this community!
Until next time,
The PCL Team
